Running the Competition The grinding rig replicates the type of winch action associated with tacking, gibing and hoisting a sail. Whilst the winch handles can rotate in both directions, measurement occurs in a single direction only. There is no option for reverse action gear adjustment. To begin with, the resistance is relatively light, however, as you continue, the grinding becomes progressively more difficult. The aim of the competition is to pit your strength, stamina and power against the machine to attain the fastest time. The timer is displayed on the large LED panel, which adds to the excitement as onlookers can see your progress and cheer encouragement. The average time it takes to complete the test is approximately 15 seconds. You may run the competition in a number of ways: with individuals or teams, male and female contenders. It is an intense competition, so it’s best run for shorter durations
